Sunday Afternoon Imbiber: Woodford Reserve

Despite the snow on the ground, I got a whiff of Spring today. Maybe it's optimism or, more likely, hopefulness, but something is in the air today. And considering nothing beats a sip of bourbon on a Sunday afternoon, it isn't difficult to understand why my thoughts wondered to the Kentucky Derby. This year's Derby takes place on May 8th and it's never too early to pick a favorite contender. The Sunday Afternoon Imbiber is promising our delegates to War Pass, but I know for a fact that Denis of Cork is a favorite around the Urban Naturalist camp. And who knows where the Superdelgates will go.

But back to that Bourbon. Today's pants are feeling a little fancy, so a fancy bourbon is in order. Woodford Reserve, though a little pricey, is an absolute treat and perfect for Sunday drinking. That's to say, it's smooth and soft and mellow enough to drink straight or with a few cubes of ice. It was, in fact, the official Bourbon of the Kentucky Derby. Woodford has the strength to kill off any of life's hangovers from last week and help your mind drift into a warmer place, like the Kentucky Derby, first week of May, warm wind, sunshine, and a bourbon in you hand.

proof: 90.4
nose: mild spice, vanilla, the ocean
taste: honey, caramel, menthol

I'm looking at Tripsy McStumble, and a glass of Booker's with just a leeeetle splash of branch. Otherwise it's too hot to appreciate.
