Pacific Ocean Blues

The Urban Naturalist always appreciates a good, sad story. Dennis Wilson, the lone surfing Beach Boy, is a good one. His good looks, fast cars, and excessive drug use, made him the ultimate beach bum rebel. His talent is often overshadowed by his interactions with The Manson Family and his genius, eccentric brothers. But Dennis had a sad, loneliness rarely associated with the sun-drenched California sound. The Urban Naturalist was initially struck by the cover of Wilson's only solo effort, Pacific Ocean Blue. Those sad eyes greet the listener with an album of nearly perfect ballads and sound experimentations. While Wilson's work has slowly gained a following and appreciation, his audience just might get its deserve with a re-release scheduled this Spring. It might just become The Urban Naturalist's Summer soundtrack.

Legacy Recordings is planning a 30th Anniversary 2-disc release for April 15th. It will include all of Pacific Ocean Blue and all material from the Bamboo Sessions, the uncompleted follow-up.

Good Call! always warms my heart when someone posts about this record. Try John Phillips', John the Wolf King of LA for an equally stunning summer record.
